Custodial Transport Services Continue to Give Cause for Concern

27/07/07

As recently announced by the Minister for Corrective Services, GSL will from 31 July 2007 take over the contract for custodial transport and other court custodial services from the present contractor, AIMS. This Report, released today by the Inspector of Custodial Services Professor Richard Harding, is a timely analysis of the problems and risks that will have to be addressed by GSL in conjunction with the Department of Corrective Services.

Foremost amongst these are the following:

  • the unreliability of the vehicle fleet;
  • poor appreciation of passenger safety issues; and
  • the frequent cancellation of hospital escorts.
